The Brodsky lab holds diversity and inclusivity as core values.
We strive to create a supportive, safe, intellectually vibrant, and anti-racist space in which every lab member is seen, and their unique background and contributions are respected and valued. We believe that the advancement of science comes from inclusion of all voices, specifically those that have been systematically marginalized and excluded. We welcome and look forward to working with all individuals regardless of race, religion, gender, gender identity, nationality, disability, or age. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community in which everyone feels a sense of belonging to be their authentic selves and do their best work. To achieve this, the Brodsky lab is committing to:
creating an environment with zero tolerance for bigotry or other prejudice on the basis of someone’s membership in a particular group
actively promote talks, symposia and other forums where lab personnel can understand and challenge our own and others’ conscious and unconscious biases
expand outreach to local Philadelphia schools/community through specific Brodsky lab-curated programming that directly gives back to the community around us
mentor at least one summer SUIP student or research intern from other summer programs that foster research experiences for under-represented undergraduates
work to actively recruit graduate students, post-docs and personnel from under-represented programs that our conventional circles may not otherwise reach
meet annually as a lab with the specific purpose of reassessing and reaffirming these commitments
We appreciate feedback and engagement from like-minded individuals and labs in the service of fostering a more inclusive scientific research community.
