The lab is excited to welcome Jenna Zhang, a third year MD-Ph.D. student from the MVP program! Jenna is jointly mentored with Sunny Shin in the Department of Microbiology at Penn Medicine, so she’s only steps or a Slack message away.
Elisabet Heads Off to her Postdoc
The lab wishes best of luck to Elisabet Bjanes who is headed off to begin an undoubtedly successful postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Victor Nizet at UC San Diego. The lab will miss her expertise, willingness to share said expertise, and her delicious baked goods.
I’m not crying… you’re crying.
Neha Awarded American Heart Association Fellowship
With a sudden cry of, “AHA!” The lab wishes to congratulate Neha on being awarded an American Heart Association Fellowship. This fellowship will fund her cutting-edge research into inflammation and cell death.
Well done, Neha!
Meghan Starts New Job
It is with the faint sparkle of a tear in the eye that the lab wishes good bye and good luck to Meghan Wynosky Dolfi as she ascends to her new Scientist position at GlaxoSmithKline. Thank you for everything you’ve taught each of us, Meghan! Seven years has felt too short; some of us had just learned to spell your name!
Baofeng Starts New Job
The lab says goodbye and thank you to Baofeng Hu, our research specialist of six years, as she moves on to the greener pastures of her position at the New Bolton campus. Thank you so much for everything, Baofeng! We anticipate a rapid descent into chaos without you.
Alex goes to Law School!
The lab wishes congratulations and good luck to our friend Dr. Alex DeLaney as she starts law school down the street at Penn Law. You’re a fantastic scientist, and we know you’ll be a fantastic lawyer! Please don’t forget about the lab when you’re President!
The Lab Retreats
The lab enjoyed two days of science and sun at the 2019 ToCaShinSky Retreat, a now annual affair where we get together with the labs of Victor Torres (NYU), Ken Cadwell (NYU), and Sunny Shin (UPenn) to exchange ideas and relax. This year, the event was held in sun-kissed Long Branch, NJ and did not feature a lab Olympics for us to lose! A delightful time was had by all.
The lab. Cute matching t-shirts designed by our own Elisabet! This was the picture where almost all of us (Igor) looked at the camera.
Our fearless leaders, and namesakes of the ToCaShinSky Retreat. (L-R): Igor Brodsky, Sunny Shin, Ken Cadwell, and Victor Torres
James Grayczyk joins the lab!
The lab continues an incredible run of new hires with James, our newest postdoc! He comes to us from the Alonzo lab at Loyola Chicago and is here to serve us a deep dish of bacterial pathogenesis research!
Reyna Garcia Sillas joins the lab!
After an exhaustive search, the lab welcomes our new research specialist, Reyna, to the lab! We are excited about both the bacterial genetics expertise and Reyna/Rina name confusion she brings to the lab.
Rina Matsuda joins the lab!
The lab is equally excited to welcome an even newer graduate student, Rina, a 3rd year from the MVP program! Way to steal Beatrice’s thunder, Rina.
